Critical Reflection

At the beginning of this effective communication module, I wrote myself two goals in the introduction letter. The first goal was to be more confident in my presentation skill. The second goal was to improve my writing skill. Thirteen weeks have passed and I feel that have achieved what I was aiming for. This module has taught me various skills and techniques to improve both my presentation skills as well as writing skills. This module also helps me develop my critical thinking skills as well as my communicating skills.

Throughout the module, we were given many opportunities to apply and practice what we learned. One such example is this activity where we were given limited time to research a certain topic and present our findings in front of the class. This forced me to step out of my comfort zone and improve my presentation skills as we need to improvise my presentation. This helps me to be more confident in my presentation. I have also learned other valuable presentation skills such as the use of hand gestures, proper body positioning, proper transitioning techniques, and maintaining eye contact with the audience. Besides that, we were also given the opportunity to peer review our presentation. This allows me to further improve my presentation skills and avoid the mistake that was pointed out by my classmate. This activity allows us to learn from each other and learn to give constructive feedback so that they can improve on their presentation skills.

Apart from presentation skills, this module helps me improve my writing skills and the use of English language. I learn how to properly summarise an article and paraphrase sentences as well as the proper way of writing citations and references by using APA 7 style. Having good writing skills is important in both university life as well as in my career life.

One of the challenging aspects of this module is the research project which consists of a technical report and a presentation. One of the difficulties that I faced during the research is the ability to convene my thought and idea into the technical report. Fortunately, my teammates are there to help me in times of need. I slowly begin to learn from them the ways and techniques to express my thought so that I can write better reports.

One of the difficulties that we encounter is the lack of information available for our project. It requires us to spend hours researching for the necessary information. However, I am grateful for my teammates who encourage each other to continue to find the necessary information for the report. We learn so much from each other and help to correct each other mistakes.

In conclusion, this module allowed me to further strengthen my oral skills as well as to improve my writing skills. I believe the skills and knowledge that were taught in this module, like for example critical thinking, writing skills, and presentation skills, will be crucial in our university life as well as in the workforce. Overall, this module helps me to improve my skillset so that I apply it in my future career.
